Calumny of Apelles Introduction

This fable of the painting originated from the written records in a painting of the ancient Greek painter Abe Les. Botticelli based on the idea and created his work. The painting was similar to a scene of stage: in a solemn and sacred Rome building hall, there were three women and a man who were dragging a naked man to the king for trial in the vision center. The man wrapped by a black windbreaker was "slander", whose gesture was towards the king and displayed all slander's capabilities; armed with sticks, clutching the naked man was the "mutiny" who betrayed the companion, and handed him over to the king; the naked male youth was isolated and helpless "innocent" who prayed praying to the truth could save him from the libel fate; behind the two women, one was "false", another was "cheating", also said to be "jealousy" and "hatred", they were combing the hair for "munity". On the throne, a king with two donkey ears was so foolish and incompetent to the extreme and listened to the slander, and on either side of him were "ignorance" and "trust", constantly instilling ignorance and credulity to his ears; the other side of the painting stood a black robe wrapped "repentance", he was standing behind the naked goddess "truth", that was the truth, hoping she could save the "innocent". But standing instability of the truth with his finger of God, said, "What happened here I am also incapable of action, to find God."

The implication of this painting was profound. It told people that all evil was to deceive the people with beautiful images of the rulers to disguise people. The rulers listened to the bad people and good guys were always in distress. Facing this, the truth was also incapable of handling, which was the social reality. In terms of image shaping, the painter used the comparative approach to enhance the dramatic effect. The background buildings were composed of direct lines and arc curves. The wall was inlaid with ancient Roman saint's and heroes' relief, which was scared and solemn. But at this sacred place, innocence and the truth was suffering from the public shameless harm of the authorities; the truth and innocence showed the gorgeous robe of all the bad people with the bare body, showing the purity and beauty of the truth and innocence. The figures combined by gestures had contact with each other, forming a perfect artistic whole.
