Did artists such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Rembrandt draw from imagination?

Three fairly different artists, but I find that all of them really captured the human body. I was just wondering if anyone had any information on any of the above artists on how they went about their work. Whether they drew from imagination, had a person posing, etc. I'm sure for paintings like the Sisteen chapel Michelangelo painted from his head, which I find remarkable.

They drew from both immagination, and using inspiration. It's not hard to "capture" thehuman body either. That is what a good artist needs to be able to do. Haaha William ! That's bullshit!
