Painting the top of a wooden skimboard?

I have my skimboard i made sanded down. I plan to put enamel paint on it with a clear coat on top of it. I was wondering do I need to primer the board first? And if I shouldnt use enamel paint what kind of paint should I use? I am worried the board will be to heavy with such a thick paint. This is the first time I've ever painted a skimboard so please bare with me and help me.

Skimboards are water crafts that let the user skim across the beach surf. The way you use them is pretty simple. All you have to do is stand in the ocean in ankle-deep water, put the board down when a wave comes and jump on the board with a forward-thrusting motion--the board will glide you across the surf. You can personalize your skimboard with paint pens by painting anything you like on your board. This will make the board distinguishable from the ones used by other surfers.

Sand the skimboard until it is completely smooth and the factory varnish has been completely removed from the board.

Paint or draw any design you like on the skimboard. You can use patterns if you want.

Allow the first coat to dry.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 at least three more times. You need a really thick coat of paint; otherwise, the minerals from the ocean water will eat it away.

Apply a thick layer of clear coat or varnish to the skimboard and let it dry.

Apply a second and third coat of clear coat.
