"The Raising of the Cross" by Peter Paul Rubens - what makes it Baroque style?

I have an AP European History write up to do on how the painting "The Raising of the Cross" (Peter Paul Rubens is the artist) is Baroque style. I know it shows religious scenes in muscular and energetic composition, but what else? My write-up has to be half a page single spaced so I need a lot of detail... I'm a sophomore in HS and my teacher is WAY crazy and grades really hard, so anything helps, please!
thank you sososo much!

Baroque style in painting has to do with a lot of senses. Does it provoke your senses? It is all about heavy lightings, extreme exaggeration of colors/lines to make it seem like intense emotion in the piece. It is all about provoking intense emotions. It is before the Rococo period too...they kind of blend in together. Just google Baroque styles of art for brief explanations....also when you analyze art you should first write about the formal elements (lines, compositions, colors) and then go to themes (what does the artist want to communicate with this painting) and then your interpretations. Why did Rubens paint in the baroque style compared to other styles? Is the Baroque style a response to anything in the history of that society? Good Luck! I miss taking art history classes
