You might also check out a book called Mythologies by Roland Barthes. This is a book on semiotics, essentially a philosophical treatise, it has been very widely influential on artists, how artist's create signs, and invent mythologies. For instance the way the modern world mythologises objects, cars maybe, ipods. to the extent that an object becomes what it represents, freedom? youth? excitement? rather than what it is. Artists use this idea allot.
Don't worry, Barthes explains it much better than me, and it's quite a light read, for something that will give much intellectual kudos, and weight to anything you put forward.
Another idea, how artists mythologise themselves, and in turn become the subject of their own work... Might be heavy for A Level, but you know, reach for the f#cking stars. This would definitely allow you to talk about interesting contemporary artists.
