The Liberty Leading The People

The Liberty Leading The People was a description of  the war scene including the dead and the injured. But it could not conceal people’s wish for the freedom. This painting used dark colors as the theme and the joint efforts of God and humans, giving people a kind of fuzzy and mysterious feeling. It took the form of indomitable spirit. The dead body lying on the ground, combating warriors and the woman holding the flag high formed a stable and potential triangle. The tricolor flag symbolizing freedom, equality and love placed at the vertex of an isosceles triangle. The position of the statue of liberty of people's head in the golden section line had a grand scene and orderly composition. Behind them were the fighters pressing forward with indomitable will. The building in the distance was the symbol of Paris city—the Notre Dame de Paris.

As a symbol of freedom and the woman as the subject, Eugene Delacroix's romantic temperament created such a bare-chested woman image to rear people. The statue of liberty and fight a bloody battle in the myth of people were arranged together. She had the Greek sculpture profile, wearing a simple classical dress. Compared with the men surrounded wearing modern clothing, she was more like an abstract man, representing the highest spirit and meaning. Follow her around were the workers, citizens, children and students.

On the right of her, there was a youth holding the guns with both hands and rapidly running forward, which showed the scene for the freedom of all residents. He symbolized the young hero Alair. An injured young worker were looking up at the statue of liberty tricolor, foreground right two government soldiers were buried on the ground and left lied a devoted for the free rebel. They were armed to march forward courageously blood and corpses. Behind her two workers wielded a knife with the resolute expression and showed an angry look. Above the crowds was the cloudy sky. The painter brought himself to the work that wore a hat, dressed a tuxedo, held a long gun tightly and shouted loudly to call the people to take the past as an example and fight together to expulse the foreign invaders. Although the revolution suffered a setback and European clouds were rolling, they firmly believed that the revolution would win and free would come. This work became the symbol of the national spirit.
