You can decorate glass ornaments with paint to create an heirloom quality piece to add to your Christmas decorations or to give as gifts. The ornaments can be hand painted on the exterior with various holiday symbols. The interior can be painted in an easy marbleizing method that a child or adult can do. Personalize your ornaments with names or items that have meaning for your celebrations.
1
Clean any smudges or fingerprints from the exterior of the glass ornament with window cleaner.
2
Carefully remove the ornament hanger cap from the ornament and set it aside.
3
Place the ornament onto a folded, thick piece of flannel, batting or fiberfill to keep it from rolling.
4
Find a plastic container lid to use for a palette. Squirt a small amount of white paint onto the lid. Dip the tip of the 00 brush into white acrylic paint. Free hand outline flowers, wreath, bells, names, holiday symbols or winter scenery on to the ornament. Let dry.
5
Squirt small amounts of paint colors you want to use on to your palette. Use larger paint brushes to fill in background areas of your small art symbols. Use tiny brushes to shade and highlight the items. Let dry.
6
Turn ornament over and repeat the process to decorate it further.
7
Set a clear glass ornament onto the soft surface or into the cavity of a segmented ornament storage box. Remove the hanger cap from the ornament carefully.
8
Open an acrylic craft paint bottle and squirt some paint into the hole of the ornament making sure it hits the top side of the interior.
9
Turn the ornament with your fingers to cause the paint to run over the inside of the clear glass.
10
Squirt a second color into the ornament and turn the orb as the paint runs down the side, mixes with the first color and begins to marbleize. You can add a squirt of a third color now if you want to.
11
Keep turning the ornament until the entire interior is covered and you can no longer see through the glass.
12
Turn the ornament upside down into a disposable container or cardboard ornament container. The excess paint will drip out. Wipe the opening of the ornament occasionally to keep the paint from clogging the area.
13
Replace the ornament cap when the paint has dried. This can take 48 to 72 hours.
