Asian interior decor is lovely in its simplicity. In Japanese and Chinese interior design, less is more, with a focus on neutrals, with pops of color throughout. Chinese interior design tends to be a touch more opulent than Japanese interior design, which is the epitome of simple. Another element that is a part of both design styles is the inclusion of outdoor items indoors.

Murals
Decorate your home in the Chinese style by adding large murals to your walls, or to just one wall. The scenes that are painted in these murals depict events and figures from China's history. They tend to be painted with vibrant, bright colors, such as bold reds, greens and blues.

Room Dividers
Decorate your home in the Japanese style by adding room dividers throughout. They are decorative, as well as practical, because they can be used to section off areas. The standard Japanese-style screens are made with polished black frames and white rice paper. Use them in your living room and bedroom.

Red Lacquer
Small amounts of red lacquer are found in Japanese interior design. The color red is also representative of Chinese design as it's considered a symbol of good luck. One way to incorporate it is to use it in decorative vases or picture frames. Another idea is to incorporate small, red lacquer end and side tables into your living room. Keep in mind that the items finished with red lacquer should be used sparingly so as not to overwhelm the room.

Paint
In both Japanese and Chinese decorating, painting the walls in a celery or sage green color works well. This is a neutral color, that also is soothing and representative of nature. In addition, you can pair neutrals or bold colors with it.
