The Han and Tang Dynasties are considered the golden age of early chinese civilization. The Han Dynasty lasted 400 years and was the first long lasting chinese empire. Between the Han and Tang Dynasties there was civil war or weak dynasties. Tang was the first long lasting dynasty after Han.

The Tang dynasty solidified chinese power, the idea of a unified chinese empire and culture.

Chinese people identify themselves as ethnically Han Chinese. In everyday speak many chinese will call themselves "Tang Ren (people).

4) The grand canal boosted trade. Despite how pathetic the Song Dynasty was in warfare, her wealth from trade enabled her to deal with invasion by just paying her way out with the revenue from taxes.
