In China, is Jesus depicted in paintings and artistic impressions as being of Chinese ethnicity?

Or is it only in westernised society where we incorporate our own ideals and values of what we want Jesus to be, look, wear and act like?

If you scroll down this blog page, it has a depiction of Christ as an infant with Mary and others from a Chinese bible. They are all depicted as chinese and in a traditional chinese setting:

Jesus appeared in different forms in the Bible, but not representing different values. He was consistent in His Spirit, though different in His physical appearance.

Jesus is Jesus for the whole world. If he appears chinese in China, it is not surprising or offensive.

History tells us that Jesus was not Oriental. Jesus did not sit for an artist to paint him, nor a sculptor to sculpt him, there were no cameras so no one can say what he actually looked like. That's why no one should make up an image of him, like the Holy Bible says not to.

I don't think the Chinese practice Christianity. I think mainly they are Shinto and Hindu, but I could be wrong. That would be cool to see a Chinese version of Christ though. ALso, I think most cultures incorporate their own ideals of what they want dieties or holy people to look like, so everyone can identify with them.

I have seen many faces of Jesus, most of the time the artist just uses a local person for the model.
I find no problem with that!
God is a personal God, so why shouldn't the face of Jesus you see, look more like someone you can personally relate to.

Have anyone here actually seen the real face of Jesus?

Yes there are many, many Chinese Christians in Communist China

BTW all the pictures of Christopher Columbus look entirely different from the next one.
No-one who has ever painted Columbus actually met him while he was still alive.
No-one knows what he looked like!

Do an Internet search for pictures of Columbus
