Decorated, painted picture frames add style to a baby nursery. Acquire inexpensive used frames or purchase new ones. With this project, either work equally well to create interest on bare walls. Place anything from family photos to educational prints to nursery rhymes in your finished painted and decorated frames.
1 Acquire picture frames. Seek out plain frames, preferably wood, that have wide, flat sides. If on a budget, discount stores, thrift shops and repurposed frames from other projects make great finds since you will paint and decorate them anyway.
2 Clean the picture frames of all dust and grime. Use a lint free cloth and water as needed for cleaning. A large build up of grime may require an all purpose household spray cleaner. Let dry completely before painting.
3 Paint frames in a color that coordinates or compliments the room décor using a foam brush and acrylic craft paint. Use a crafter's sea sponge to paint a second color over the first creating a marbling effect. Alternatively, use a spray faux finish product such as Krylon Make It Stone spray stone effect paint to enhance frames.
4 Place scrapbooking stickers on the flat surfaces of the frame. Use theme stickers if the room has a theme such as nursery rhymes or simply use baby theme stickers. Leave room for any 3-D objects you plan to attach unless you do not care if the 3-D objects partially cover some of the stickers.
5 Paint "Modge Podge" or a similar clear craft sealant over the stickers using a foam brush. This helps to adhere and protect the stickers. Allow the clear coating to dry completely, at least two hours, before adding any other objects.
6 Decide on a theme word if desired. This may be the child's name, a popular toy theme or an inspirational word. Attach small 3-D wood or foam letters with hot glue on one side of the frame to spell out this word. Choose pictures that coordinate with the theme word to place in the frame later.
7 Attach other theme related 3-D objects such as may be found in the scrapbooking department of hobby and discount stores sparingly around the frame using hot glue. Do not add too many objects if theme word and stickers already decorate the frame edges. Let the entire frame dry completely before inserting photos or artwork into the frame.
