Art history to an artist is like ornithology to a bird?

What's the name of the person who said this, or something along the lines of it?
I tried to look it up on google, but unsuccessfully.. Does anyone know?

Close, it is "aesthetics is for me like ornithology must be for the birds" by Barnet Newman. See:http://www.freewords.org/biennial/artist…

When you search for quotes, put the whole bit in but put inverted commas around the bits you are sure of. I found it with the line:
"Art history" to an artist is "like ornithology " to a bird
